Fly in.
Straight to work.
You usually fly in early, have breakfast, then go straight to site. Wear your uniform on the plane. Carry-on is usually 7 kg, and your bag allowance comes with your flight ticket.
Land, find your bus, and never get on one just because it looks right. Ask someone in your company's uniform.
What to pack for your first swing →

Boots on.
- ~4:20amWake up, breakfast at the mess, get ready.
- ~5:20amBus to site, often a short ride.
- ArrivalSwipe in to site. Usually time for a coffee.
- PrestartCrew meeting: the day's jobs, hazards and who's doing what. Sign on, lock on, start.
A typical day shift on some sites. Times vary.
FIFO rosters explained →
Camp,
crib and
the mess.
Meals and your room are usually provided, and many sites cook steaks to order. But the mess has rules nobody writes down, and new starters break them on day one.
Days 07–13 · The middle of the swing
Days 7–13.
The long
middle.
- Varies by site
Fatigue days
On some sites every 14th day shift, or 7th night, must be a day off, or you fly out.
- Common practice
Stand-down
Switching to nights usually comes with a stand-down day to reset your sleep.
- Law
Your duty
Every worker must take reasonable care for their own and others' safety. If you're unsure, stop and ask.
Every point in the course is labelled like this: law, common practice, or varies by site. How we check our content
Last day.
Clean up.
Fly home.
On a roster, often half a day of normal work, then the clean-up: gear cleaned and refuelled, crib rooms and the yard sorted, so the next swing walks into a good setup. Then the flight home. On a shutdown, the last day can be the busiest of the swing.
Then it's R&R: your days off at home to rest, train and catch up on sleep.

R&R · Straight talk
We can't get
you a job.
Entry-level FIFO roles get a lot of applicants. On a working holiday visa it can be harder still, because some employers prefer full work rights. Nobody honest can promise you a start date.
What we can do: teach you how the work and camp life go, so you sound like you know what you're signing up for, and help your CV say the right things.
We will never
- Ask you for a "deposit" to secure a job
- Promise placement, interviews or a start date
- Ask for your passport or visa documents
- Show reviews we can't back up

Questions
Asked
on site.
Is this only for backpackers?
No. Flights, camp, the mess and site life are the same for everyone, Australians included. One lesson covers extra rules for people on working holiday visas.
Is this accredited or nationally recognised?
No. It's an independent online course. The certificate shows you completed it and passed the quiz. It is not a licence, a site induction or a qualification.
Will this get me a FIFO job?
No one can promise that. It helps you understand the work and present yourself well. Employers make their own decisions.
I'm on a working holiday visa. Will my job count for my 2nd visa?
We explain the general rules and link to Home Affairs, but we can't give personal visa advice. Only a registered migration agent or lawyer can.
Does it cover every mine site?
No. Rules differ between states, companies and sites. Every lesson marks what's law, what's common, and what varies. Your site induction always wins.
When can I buy the course?
